Walking Around – Cincy Cheap Date

Strolling around and chatting is a great way to spend your date. Why not add some music? Fountain Square, Newport on the Levee, Serpentine Wall at Yeatman’s Cove, and Washington Park all offer free concerts during the summer. Fountain Square offers a different genre each evening, Tuesdays through Thursdays. Newport on the Levee offers free concerts once a week on Thursdays and ticketed concerts regularly. Washington Park offers free concerts and movies during the summer and free activities the rest of the year.

During the month of August, you can thrill to Shakespeare in Park. The company offers performances of two plays each summer. For a schedule, click here.
Several of the local museums offer free entrance, often depending on the day. The Cincinnati Art Museum is always free while the Contemporary Art Center (CAC) is free on Monday evenings. The Taft Museum of Art is free on Sundays. There is so much to see at The Cincinnati Art museum that you may very well spend several date nights there. Current exhibits include folk art and a series of exhibits on Ornamental Hairwork Jewelry so you can take a look at what your Ohioan grandma might have done on cold winter nights. Or check out the stunning Tiffany Glass exhibit.
The CAC specializes in more current art. You’ll find edgier, cutting edge art to inspire some great conversation. The Taft is located in a historically significant building. It is considered a fine examples of Palladian style Federal architecture. The Taft includes amazing works of art in addition to landscape murals by African-American artist, Robert S. Duncanson. Duncanson created these murals in the Taft’s foyer. They are now considered some of the finest domestic murals dating from the pre-Civil War Era.

With the biggest astronomical event of the year on the horizon, check out the Cincinnati Observatory. You can watch the Solar eclipse on Monday, August 21 in the safety of the Observatory. You’ll discover more about eclipses and learn more about the observatory.On July 29 and August 5, join the observatory for Saturndays. Saturn stars on those two days, so stop by and see the lovely planet in all its glory.
