North Bend and Cleves – Down-river Living

North Bend and Cleves – Down-river Living 800 800 Cincinnati Real Estate | Rock N Roll Real Estate Team

Heading down-river from Cincinnati are several small towns. I’ve covered one, Addyston, and an outlying neighborhood, Saylors Park. For more information on these communities, please follow this link. Travelling a bit farther, the last town on the river is North Bend and Cleves is to the immediate north. The towns are about 15 miles from Cincinnati.

North Bend

North Bend dates back to 1789. It’s named for the northward bend of the Ohio River. Presently there are just under 1000 people living in the town.
North Bend’s claim to fame is as the home to two presidents. William Henry Harrison lived in the town and his grandson, Benjamin Harrison, was born there. In addition, Eliza Hendricks, wife of Vice President Thomas A. Hendricks, was born in North Bend. Hendricks served with Grover Cleveland. Visit the cemetery to see the grave of John Scott Harrison, the only man in American history to be both father and son of US presidents.
Both Harrison home are open for tours. The Harrison-Symmes Museum offers more information on the Harrisons. Symmes was the land developer for both North Bend and Cleves. His daughter eloped with the older Harrison.

Homes in North Bend

Recently, a new home subdivision was created in North Bend. These homes, built around Ashton Oaks Golf Course, offer modern amenities. Homes are on large lots with panoramic views of green spaces and mature woods. Homes in this subdivision are in the $300K and up range.
The more mature homes in North Bend are in the $200Ks.

Cleves

Cleves edges the Great Miami River. There are roughly 3,300 people within the village. Cleves is much like North Bend – new subdivisions with large homes surrounded by green space. Older Cleves includes older homes that look out of the rolling hills. The median home value is $174,100. Current listings range from $69K to $399K.

North Bend and Cleves Schools

Students in North Bend and Cleves attend Three Rivers Local School District schools. The elementary school, middle school and high school are all in Cleves. The US News and World Report ranks Taylor High School 111 in Ohio.

Shawnee Lookout State Park

Not far outside Cleves and North Bend is Shawnee Lookout State Park. This 1,000-acre park is called the most beautiful in Ohio. The park includes 34 Native American earthworks. Because of this, the park is on the National Register of Historic Places. The park also includes the Springhouse School and Log Cabin.
The park includes a golf course and three trails. These trails range from 1.3 to 2 miles. Enjoy picnic areas and playground or access the Great Miami River via the boat ramp.
If you’d like to take a look at North Bend or Cleves, give me a call. I’d be happy to show you around the area.
